OPD’s public defense consulting
services were introduced to counties at the Washington Association
of Counties conference in October 2005. Information about the
services was provided to conference attendees and was also provided
to attendees at the Association of Washington Cities conference
later in the year. |

The manner in which local
governmental entities contract for the provision of public defense
services and the contracts themselves can help improve the quality
of public defense services provided and reduce the potential for
local governmental liability as a result of the services provided.
|
 |
OPD meets with local
governmental representatives, reviews existing public defense
contracts, answers questions about those contracts and provides
information regarding best practices in public defense contracting.
There is no charge for this service.

Representatives of local
governmental entities can contact OPD about contracting for public
defense services or other public defense issues facing them
