The mission of the Washington State Office of Public Defense (OPD) is “to implement the constitutional guarantee of counsel and to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the indigent appellate services funded by the state.”  RCW 2.70.005.  Established by the Legislature in 1996, OPD is an independent agency of the judicial branch.  The OPD’s office is located at 711 Capitol Way South, Suite 106, Olympia, Washington.   

Any person wishing to request access to public records of OPD, or seeking assistance in making such a request, should contact the public records officer of the OPD:

The public records officer or designee and the OPD will provide the fullest assistance to requestors, create and maintain for use by the public and OPD officials an index to public records of the OPD; ensure that public records are protected form damage or disorganization; and prevent fulfilling public records requests from causing excessive interference with essential functions of the OPD.
